Calabrian Diavolicchio-(Capsicum annuum)- The Calabrian Diavolicchio pepper comes to us from the region of southern Italy called Calabria. Diavolicchio translates into “Little Devil”. The country of Italy is shaped like a boot and Calabria is in the toe. The Calabrian people are known for their love of spicy food and chiles. It is known to be the home of hot chiles in Italy! The Calabrian Diavolicchio Chiles ripen from green to red and resemble a small Thai pepper. It is the most widely cultivated chile in Calabria and considered the hottest at close to 40,000 SHU. They grow to 1 inch in length maximum and close to 1/8 inch in width. The flavor is fruity and nutty. They are used fresh or dried used to spice up traditional Italian dishes and are pickled.
