Frontera Sweet-(Capsicum chinense)-This variety was recognized and brought to the Chile community by grower Peter Merle who lives in the Canary Islands off the coast of Spain and Africa. It was found at Frontera on the Island of El Hierro. The Frontera Sweet peppers are Scotch Bonnet shaped and mature from green to a yellow orange. They are about 2-3 inches in diameter. The flavor is fruity sweet and the heat level is very low and sometimes no heat. Since many peppers have migrated from the Caribbean to African via the slave trade it is very possible that its old origins are from there and this could be a natural cross between a Scotch Bonnet and the Sweet no heat Aji Dulce types from that region. The Frontera Sweet chile plants are good producers and grow 3 to 4 feet tall.
