Manganji Pepper-(Capsicum annuum)-Outside of Japan many have not heard of this Culinary gem. It is from the area of Kyoto, Japan and is honored by being designated as one of Japan’s famous Specialty vegetables. This is not just given any produce grown there. It has been in existence for hundreds of years. The Manganji pepper is very sweet and is eaten green or red. It is used from personal kitchens by the public but also by the prestigious Kyoto Kaiseki cooking. The Manganji pepper is great roasted, grilled, fried, stuffed and pairs well with Chocolate. Famous Japanese Chef Koyama from Kyoto markets a Chocolate treat that is made with Manganji chiles! The Manganji chiles grow about 6 inches long and are slightly wrinkled. They resemble a smaller hatch chile. The Manganji chile plants grow just over 2 feet tall.
