Melrose Pepper-(Capsicum annuum)-If your grandmother is Italian and grew up in Chicago you know about these peppers. On how they originated here the story goes like this, an Italian family immigrated to Melrose Park, Illinois which is a western suburb of Chicago, they brought with them the seeds of these tender and sweet thin skinned peppers. After that the peppers found their way into the local produce stands and the rest is history. People who know of them wait patiently for them to come in season. A very sweet pepper cooked green or red. Some people fry them in olive oil with a touch of tomato and onions and eat them as a meal with bread and provolone cheese on the side. Others use them slightly roasted on sandwiches or fry them with sausage. They ripen from green to crimson red. The Melrose pepper chile plants grow up to three feet tall and are very productive.


Melrose Peppers

Also known as the Marconi Golden pepper. The Golden Marconi pepper is a very tasty pepper that can be fried or used fresh in salads. So sweet you will think you are eating candy. Fruits taper to a point and get about 7 inches long. They are wider than the similar Golden Treasure so are a better one for stuffing! Like other sweet peppers you can find vendors in Italy deep frying these and lightly salting them like potato chips! The Golden Marconi chile plants can grow up to three feet tall and are very productive.

At Refining Fire Chiles we isolate our seed production plants to avoid cross-pollination with other chile species. If you want to grow your own chiles, you can purchase seeds right here, or full plants (April-July) and have fresh chiles by September.
