NuMex Orange Spice Jalapeno-(Capsicum annuum)-This is the Orange Jalapeno created by a breeding project that started in 1995 at New Mexico State University at the Chile Pepper Institute. They also created two others in this project named Lemon and Pumpkin Spice. The original crossing was done with the Permagreen Bell pepper and the Early Jalapeno. The Chile Pepper Institute has always been successful of producing peppers with new colors. Now there are many other colored Jalapeno variants in the World but they do not retain that color to the ending ripening stages. These stay the color till the end which makes them unique. From a Culinary perspective they each have more fruitiness than the regular Jalapeno. And each one tastes different. The NuMex Orange Spice has a good Jalapeno heat level. They are very productive and best flavor is when fully ripened to Orange. The NuMex Orange Spice Jalapeno Chile Plants grow about 2 feet tall.
