Szegedi 179 Paprika-(Capsicum annuum) These hail from the area of Hungary called Szeged. This is pronounces Seged. These have a medium heat so considered to be classified as a hot paprika type. They are used dried or in powder form but in my opinion can be used to make a nice sauce or be roasted whole. The flavor is rich and fruity. The Szegedi 179 chile is about 3 times the thickness of a cayenne and gets almost 4 inches long. The Szegedi 179 chile plants grow up to 4 feet tall.

Szegedi Giant Peppers

This is a rare variety from Szegedi, Hungary. Also called Giant Szegedi. Rare meaning it’s not found in the U.S. produce market. It is a Sweet paprika type that resembles a medium size bell pepper. The Szegedi Giant ripens from creamy white, then yellow and finally orange to red. It can be harvested at any color stage and flavor will vary with each color.

It is a very sweet pepper that produces abundant fruits up to 4 inches in length by 2-3 inches wide. It’s flesh is thick and juicy! Ideal for salads, roasting or stuffing. The Szegedi Giant chile plants grow between 2 to 3 feet tall. Verticulum wilt tolerant.
